John Flett pieces are incredibly rare to come across. Steven Philip held 3 pieces in his archive collection which recently were sold in a legendary auction for Kerry Taylor's auction house, these can be viewed still if you would like to see more examples of Flett's work.

This is a very wearable piece, it is also a piece for a collector interested in the brilliant work of young British designers during the late 1980's. The pattern cutting of this piece is skilful and unusual and would make a great study piece.

John Flett and John Galliano were contemporaries at Central Saint Martins and for some time a couple, the influence of the others work can be seen in each of their early collections. Described as "wickedly talented" by Galliano, much of Flett's skill was in his cutting, intricate and inventive, he developed clothes that seemed to cling to the body. In fact, many of his garments were difficult to understand on the hanger and needed to be worn to be appreciated.

John Flett's critically successful autumn/winter 1988-89 show presented sophisticated, opulent fabrics cut into lean, elongated shapes. At the end of the 1980's financial difficulties led to Flett leaving the Uk and taking up short lived positions for Claude Montana on his debut for Lanvin and then with Enrico Coveri for his menswear.

Before he died suddenly of a heart attack at age 27, John Flett was on the point of signing a contract with the Milan fashion house Zuccoli to create a womenswear collection and relaunch his career.
