About
I came to create this project from a background as a design assistant and pattern cutter for an artisanal fashion label, and more recently as a fashion educator at the Glasgow School of Art.
I have always had a deep interest in the history of clothing and its construction which led to the creation of Sacrificium.
When curating Sacrificium, I am specifically drawn to textile-driven pieces that take their inspiration from mythology and the organic world. I began Sacrificium to recapture the surrealist magic, creativity and mystery that used to be found in 80's and early 90's fashion magazines editorials and runway shows.
I am particularly fond of the romantic and ethereal early collections of Romeo Gigli, Callaghan, Dolce & Gabbana, Sybilla and Kaat Tilley, as well as the limitless creativity of Japanese designers such as Issey Miyake, Yoshiki Hishinuma, Koji Tatsuno, Tokio Kumagai and Matsuda during the 80's and early 90's.
These are the designers whose work I endeavour to offer here.
I hope to offer a window back into this fashion era – a place to celebrate these designers and re-look at their inspiration and the processes behind their work.
