'Assuit' or 'Tulle-bi-telli' is a soft cotton netting fabric embroidered with silver metalwork. The patterns formed by this embroidery include geometric figures as well as plants, birds, people and camels.
Part of the beauty of these shawls is the wonderful drape produced due to their weight.
These shawls were popular alongside Fortuny's Delphos dress with the wealthy and famous in the 1920s. They can also be seen worn in films of the era -such as by Hedy Lamarr as Delilah in Cecille B Demille's Samson and Delilah. More recently an assuit textile was used by Jean Paul Gaultier
