Akihiko Izukura is a Japanese master of dyeing and weaving who works primarily in silk. He hand-dyes silk with subtle colors made only from natural materials following a process that is over 2,000 years old.
Izukura was born into a family that had a long history as obi weavers. Izukura went on a personal journey researching thread and the complex ancient techniques of weaving and braiding, mastering techniques of the Edo period that were nearly lost. His textiles are hand woven and hand dyed using natural elements, eliminating the production of CO2. He also uses processes to collect silk which ensure no silk worms are harmed.
